Humility
Galatians 6:3 — “If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.”
At the core of what Jesus taught not only by word, but also by example, was humility. Jesus spent several years working on the hearts of the guys he chose to follow him. It was no easy task, but eventually they started to produce fruit. The hardest fruit to grow was humility , which is shown in the scripture below:
Matthew 18: 1 — “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?””
Paul had the same struggle with the early Christians. We have a tendency once we start to know, and do a little more, to believe it's because of our own efforts. Paul warned against this kind of thinking. Once we start to believe that we are pretty good, and that we are something, we lose our desire for God to continue to produce good fruit through us. Let's not fall into that trap!
Two things to ponder:
How much good will I do without the goodness of God working in and through me?
Do I care more about being great than I do about desiring the Only One who is great?
