Living Godly Lives
Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ
In the book of Titus, the Apostle Paul gives the young overseer instruction on how to live as a young man in the faith who is trying to lead others. The letter offers guidance for everyone — older men are to be loving, self-controlled mentors; older women are to be reverent and to train young women to love God, their husbands, and their children; and young men are to practice self-control and establish a pattern of good works in their lives. (Titus 2:1-8).
My favorite part of chapter 2 is the part where Paul explains why Christians should be doing these things. In verse 11, he says, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people…”
Actions cause reactions. God’s action was to show us grace and mercy: “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The next few verses in chapter 2 describe what our reaction should be: “to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:12-13).
The Bible makes it clear that all believers go through a change after they’re saved. After all, God gives us a new heart and new mind (Ephesians 4:23). If you claim to be a Christian and still find yourself living an ungodly, worldly, out-of-control life, ask yourself…why? If God has changed you, don’t keep living the same old way!
