The Power of a Godly Mother
2 Timothy 1:5 — "I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."
One of my favorite scriptures about motherhood is in 2 Timothy 1. For nearly the entire first chapter, Paul encourages Timothy to use his gifts from God and to live boldly for Him. Paul also makes an interesting note about where young Timothy’s faith first started.
The apostle explains that the “sincere faith” found in Timothy first lived in his grandmother and mother. While Paul doesn’t mention his father, he makes it a point to talk about the influence the women in his life had.
Timothy went on to become a leader and seminal figure in the foundation of the early church, but without spiritual guidance from his mother and grandmother, that may have never happened.
While society—and even some Christians—often downplay the power and importance of motherhood, God shows us through this passage that the faithful love and consistency of a godly mother can not only change the lives of her children, but of the whole world!
When you’re feeling overwhelmed and burdened by the weight of motherhood, remember that you are doing eternally important work that brings glory to God and goodness to the life of your children.
