Surround Yourself With the Right People

Exodus 18:8-9 —  Then Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the hardship that had come upon them in the way, and how the LORD had delivered them. And Jethro rejoiced for all the good that the LORD had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

After Moses had led his people out of bondage from Egypt and defeated Amalek, he was reunited with his wife, children, and father-in-law in the wilderness where the Israelites were encamped.

Moses was excited to tell his father-in-law about all the amazing things the LORD had done for Israel and how He had been a present help in every trial and trouble they faced. When Jethro heard about all that God had done, he did exactly what he should’ve done — rejoiced! Not only did he rejoice, but he also proclaimed that the LORD was greater than any other god and offered sacrifices to Him.

It’s important to remember that as Christians, we should align ourselves with peers and mentors who share the same values and convictions that we do. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we should agree on the “big” things in life.

In 2 Corinthians 6:14 the apostle Paul teaches us, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

Christians were never meant to be “lone wolves”, but we have to be intentional to fill our lives with the right people. Surround yourself with people who love God. Surround yourself with people who give Him praise when He shows up in your life. Surround yourself with people who will be there to pick you up when He allows you to experience trials.
