Why is Good Friday good?

Isaiah 53:5 — But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Good Friday marks the darkest day in the history of the world… it’s the day that a perfect man was put on trial for sins He did not commit. Found guilty when He was completely innocent. Beaten and bullied by men that He created with His own hands. Forced to carry a heavy wooden cross up a hill. Nailed to that cross and mocked in front of His people. Killed by the same people He came to serve. A perfect Son separated from His loving Father.

So why do we call one of the darkest days in history “Good Friday”?

What happened on that fateful Friday isn’t good because of what was done to Jesus—but because He took the place you deserved. He stood in so you wouldn’t have to.

You should have been on trial for your sins and shortcomings, not Jesus.
You should have been found guilty and sentenced to death, not Jesus.
You should have been beaten and bullied by the authorities, not Jesus.
You should have been forced to carry your cross up the hill, not Jesus.
You should have been nailed to that cross and mocked in front of your peers, not Jesus.
You should have been killed on that cross for your sins, not Jesus.
You should have been separated from the Father, not Jesus.

The punishment that Jesus endured is one that was meant for you and for your sins. But by His grace and ultimate sacrifice, your punishment was paid by Him and our sins can be forgiven and washed away by His blood.

Good Friday is good because we have a good Savior.
